Natural History Tour

A knowledgeable tour guide will show and teach you every detail about the plants and animals in the forest, within a private conservation area where our main focus is on preservation and education. Come and enjoy the scenery while discovering interesting wildlife on your own.

Monteverde Sunrise Tour

When you arrive it would still be dark. You will walk until reaching the highest point where you can still see the stars. Little by little the sun will reveal the details of the spectacular place you are at. The magnificent view is accompanied by freshly brewed coffee or tea served on site. The singing birds will indicate the natural History tour is about to start.

Sunset And Night Walk

In this 2.5-hour tour you will enjoy a panoramic view of Monteverde, the Gulf of Nicoya and the Tilarán wind mills as part of the lowlands of Guanacaste. All while the sunset and the aroma of local handcrafted coffee brewed by us completes an unforgettable postcard of your trip to Monteverde.

After enjoying this unique sunset, we will be ready to start the exciting Night Tour where you might find nocturnal fauna such as: tarantulas, birds, frogs, snakes and more…

Transition Tour (Birding-Sunset-Night Walk)

Picture this: Views, Birding, Coffee break and Sunset, culminating in a Night Walk all in one Educational Guided Tour.

This tour starts around 4:00 p.m., you’ll walk into a private reserve in search for wildlife, monkeys and birds like Toucans, Long Tailed Manakin, Northern Barred-Woodcreeper. We will learn all about different Monteverde life zones, while enjoying the best views. We will take a break around 5:30 p.m. with coffee or tea to appreciate the sunset, and then keep exploring the forest this time at night in look for nocturnal creatures like Tarantulas, Snakes, Frogs, and more…

Birding Tour

For the birding tour, keep an eye out for the many low and hignland bird species found in this reserve, while surrounded by stunning views and fauna. What to expect from this tour? The forest becomes mystical with the sounds of birds that appear as you walk the trails. It is possible to be captivated by the song of the endemic Collared Trogon, Bell Bird, Keel-Billed Toucan, or be amazed by the dance steps of the Long Tailed Manakin and more…

Why visit Woodpecker Educational Tours?

This 43-hectare private property, managed by a Costa Rican family, emphasizes educational tourism, nature preservation, and sustainable tourism. For decades, the family kept it as a well-kept secret. Acquired in 1968, the property was recently opened to the public to preserve the unique flora and fauna. It also aims to transmit ethical and moral values from ancestors to new generations.

Located between 1350m and 1400m above sea level. As a transitional forest, it bridges the gap between dry and cloudy forests, resulting in an interesting variety of flora and fauna.
